The craft beer industry is booming (especially in Pennsylvania and New Jersey), as consumers are becoming more interested in the many new styles and varieties of beer. Pennsylvania alone is home to over 100 craft breweries, and ranks second in craft beer production in the United States.
While the industry has opened up a new market for entertainment and local jobs, it can pose dangers to those who unaware of the difference between a standard domestic beer like Budweiser, and something like a craft ‘India Pale Ale (or IPA)’ — the first has an ABV (alcohol by volume) of between 4-5%, while the latter can range anywhere from 6-12% on average. What this means is that one craft brewed IPA can have the same alcohol content as two standard beers. Uninformed drinkers may believe that they are able to drive after two beers, when in fact they consumed the same alcohol content as about four standard beers, posing a danger to not only themselves but to other drivers on the road.
